On Nov 27, Design Week wrapped up with the setting up of a federation for the protection of and an association of cultural and creative industries in Suzhou’s Gusu district.
The five-day event saw the city hold exhibitions to showcase modern design and traditional crafts like brocade, embroidery, woodcuts, new year painting and kesi, a silk-weaving technique.
Besides, there were forums for government officials, experts, and designers to explore the possibility of using design to fuel the city’s development.
Meanwhile, various activities were organized in Suzhou’s taohuawu area, shopping malls, tourist attractions and campuses, which attracted visitors to buy cultural and creative products, appreciate the exhibits and enjoy local snacks.
The design week was an attempt by Suzhou to revive the city, upgrade its industry and create a sense of well-being for its people through cooperating with Venice in Italy and other foreign cities.
Students from local colleges and universities also displayed their design works.
Meanwhile, some popular activities will continue to be held even though design week has ended.
